About BitcoinTipJar
BitcoinTipJar turns your Lightning address into a tip page, a QR code and a poster. When someone tips you, their wallet pays your wallet directly. We make the page and the QR code, and we're never in the middle of a payment: we never hold your money and never take a cut.
"Paid ✓" and tipper names
The "Paid ✓" a tipper sees comes from your own wallet, through a Lightning standard called LUD-21. A tipper's name travels with the payment the same way, through LUD-12. Wallets that support these show them, and every wallet still receives the tip. See which wallets do what.
What we keep
If you claim a short link, like bitcointipjar.com/yourname:
- your Lightning address, which is where that link sends your tips;
- your jar's settings, and the email we send your edit link to;
- a record of the tips your wallet confirmed, which you can delete.
A jar someone else made for you holds your email only to send the setup link and up to two reminders. The link in every email removes it. A jar made with no email on file can be switched on by whoever scans it. We don't check that they own it, and the person who made it can report a wrong claim to abuse@bitcointipjar.com.
What a tip jar can't show
Nothing illegal, no posing as someone you're not, and no scams, phishing or malware. To report a jar, email abuse@bitcointipjar.com with its link, and we'll take it down if it breaks these rules.
